Om Swastiastu ...

Busy week ahead. Hope to see you at the MRA Bali International Triathlon on Sunday morning at 7 a.m.. Join the party on the beach, join the triathlon or join the 5km fun run – but be there. Also, come to hear the world famous Yale University Whiffenpoofs perform at The St. Regis Bali on Monday, June 21.

Leading news stories this week include updates on the Bali Taxi War; prison terms handed out to two expatriate property agents and a major bust by Customs of an illegal booze warehouse.

Nusa Dua was made more beautiful over the past weeks with two delegations from the Miss World competition visiting The Westin, Nusa Dua and The Laguna, Nusa Dua. The lovely ladies were in town to clear the way for the Miss World pageant to be held in Bali in 2014.

There's also news on the declining value of the Euro and its effects on Bali tourism; an increased national tourism budget proposed for 2011; a scolding delivered to the Bali tourism business sector by Minister of Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik; and the impact of the fast-growing mainland Chinese outbound tourism market on destinations such as Bali.

There's interesting reading in the latest installment of 'Bali by the Numbers' suggesting tourism growth to Bali may be leveling off.

Last week, Bali welcomed Australia's newest international airline to Bali – Strategic Airline – now flying three times a week from Perth.

In this week's edition we have links to "must see" videos from the Bali Hotel Association "Bali is My Life Campaign." Prepare to fall in love with Bali all over again – the videos are superb!

There's also an important guest editorial from Anak Agung Gde Agung – Tourism's True Paradigm.

World Cup Fever – it's here and it's happening in Bali. Read the details of the illness for which there's no cure.

PLEASE NOTE – due to unforeseen circumstances related to the venue, the organizing committee for the American Fourth of July Celebration have announced the cancellation of that event.

All this and more in this week's Bali Update.
