Bali Updates

Om Swastiastu ...

Bali Udpate turns 12 this week; we're sending edition number 703 to our 20,000 plus readers around the world. Sincere thanks to all our faithful subscribers.

Bali authorities are still seeking success in bringing the current rabies epidemic under control; the lines are toughening on Bali's escalating elephant war; Bali Taxi (formerly known as “Blue Bird”) is ruled to be a legal operation; the Tourism Minister urges the renovation of Bali's airport to start without further delay; and a law maker in Karangasem say that regency's hotel and restaurant sector is over-saturated.

In other news, it appears that Lombok's new international airport will be delayed by a few months until mid-2010. Garuda Indonesia says 2011 may be the year they resume flying to the U.S.A.. And, a Jakarta-based tourism expert says Asian tourism arrivals will suffer because of recent changes in the visa-on-arrival rules.

Looking to explore beyond Bali? There's now three flights each week connecting Bali to Ende on the island of Flores – just a hop and a skip away from Flore's famous three colored lakes at Kelimutu.

Not an April fools joke, but effective April 1st the Le Meridien Nirwana Bali Resort will be re-branded as the Pan Pacific Nirwana Bali Resort.

From Bali's hotel sector there's news of a trend setting re-launch of the Ku Sushi Lounge at the InterContinental Bali Resort and a US$8 million room upgrade now underway at the Westin Bali Resort.

We've also got mail to share and news of an important painting exhibition at the Ganesha Gallery.
