Bali Updates

Om Swastiastu ...

Indonesian national press appears unanimous in projecting that Jero Wacik will regain his seat as Minister for Culture and Tourism. In a related story, we ask is it a smart move or a lack of imagination that has inspired the retention of "Visit Indonesia Year 2008" to become "VIY 2009" and, now "VIY 2010" ?

Last week, a number of ceremonies in Bali and Australia commemorated the 202 who died on October 12, 2002 in the Bali bombings.

Other articles this week include the announcement that Garuda will restart services between Jakarta and Amsterdam on June 1, 2010; Julia Roberts has had a less than smooth start to the filming of "Eat, Pray, Love" in Ubud; and a most peculiar story of the close affection a North Bali man feels for his cow.

There's also two articles looking at Bali's worsening water crisis.

TOPtoTOP Global Expedition visited Bali last week to climb our highest mountain and make students aware of the impact of global climate change. The Melia Bali Resort in Bali has received international recognition for its continuing efforts to preserve the environment.

Keeping track of Bali's best placesto eat, we share the story how the dining experience found at the landmark Warisan Restaurant has changed its name and moved closer to the beach where is has reincarnated as the MÉTIS Restaurant and Gallery. Don't be confused: A restaurant called "Warisan" still operates at the old locale.

There's also news on "The Road to Bali" leading to the Commonwealth Bank Tennis Tournament happening in Nusa Dua November 4-8, 2009.
